Stepping into Uncharted Waters with Hailey Roberts
Stepping Into Uncharted Waters With The Veritas Foundation
In this episode, Hailey Roberts, Director of Veritas Foundation, shares how the Lord faithfully provides for blind and visually impaired children at Paul School for the Blind in Sierra Leone. Listen to the episode below to hear how she’s trusted in God, and seen His plans surpass her plans as she stepped into uncharted waters.
The History of Veritas Foundation
The Veritas Foundation opened in 2019 as the charitable affiliate of Veritas Forensic Accounting & Economics. Since its inception, the Foundation has provided financial and material support to feed the hungry, shelter the poor, and clothe the needy. As they provide impoverished families and disabled children with resources, their goal is to instill hope and build a bright future!
Their focus is on blind and visually impaired children at Paul School for the Blind in Sierra Leone. As the Foundation grows, the organization intends to expand its reach from Sierra Leone to provide aid to other impoverished countries worldwide. The goal is to help these children grow into self-sustaining adults and bless them as they mature.
From Darkness To Light in Sierra Leone
There has been conflict in the country since the 1980s over the trade in illicit gems. “[It] has many natural resources such as diamonds, gold and aluminum… And Sierra Leone has had a difficult time trying to recover from [war].” Hailey believes that God brought them to Sierra Leone to help people as the country recovers from war. Hailey and the Veritas Foundation team studied the World Bank and found that poverty is actually increasing in the area, with forecasts for 2030 predicting that 9 of 10 of the extreme poor will live in Subsaharan Africa. With those numbers, Hailey believes “The Lord definitely caused us to go in and shine a light in that field, and we’re hoping that we do make an impact.”
For Hailey, she prayed in moments when she had no idea where to start and God answered her prayers in ways she didn’t expect. She encourages leaders that if they’re uncertain or going through something new, God is with them. He’s working. And His works are abundantly more wonderful than anything we could do on our own. It can be hard to understand the reason why things happen, both good and bad, but in those moments, remember there’s a reason for everything. As said in the Bible, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity,” Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV). In times of doubt, Hailey encourages listeners to remember God’s promises. Whatever challenges people face in ministry, He has a great plan in store. Hailey stepped into uncharted waters with Veritas Foundation, and has had first-hand impact on the lives of children in Sierra Leone. What uncharted waters and new opportunities are you facing today?
Hailey says, “God brought Pushpay to us,” and that over 90% of Veritas Foundation’s donations come from Pushpay. If you’re ready to really explore how mobile giving can work for your nonprofit, click here to learn more.
