Vital Processes for Digital Discipleship with Mark Bofill

Vital Processes for Digital Discipleship

How do you make sure you keep new guests from slipping out the door? Pastor Mark Bofill with Calvary Worship Center in Colorado Springs, CO shares how they overcame this problem by creating the D.N.A. Process within their ChMS solution, so new visitors can grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Discipling Through Technology

The world is changing, and so is the way we consume and spread the gospel. Everything around us is fast, simple, instant, and personalized—why wouldn’t discipleship be the same?

Jesus’ final command to his disciples (best known as The Great Commission) was to go and make more disciples:

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)

For Calvary Worship Center, making disciples and shepherding their 3000+ congregants are their top priorities. And with such a large audience, it’s important to make sure that discipleship is still personal, and that staff knows who they are talking to. They needed a structure to help them bring people onboard and activate them in the community.

Pastor Mark worked with his staff to personalize and streamline discipleship by creating a D.N.A. Process within their ChMS solution. Now, guests can Discover the heart of the church, Navigate and learn their spiritual gifts and servanthood, and Activate by plugging in and starting the discipleship journey to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Guests experience a smoother onboarding process, and staff have an easy process to follow every time. Mark says, “I think it’s important that any church… really get their people connected as volunteers, so that they feel valued.”

How Processes Help Discipleship

A simple process is crucial for helping anyone to go deeper in their discipleship. For Mark, knowing and sharing their process was critical. He met with his team over four weeks to make sure everyone knew the process and their responsibility. That time spent training ensured that everyone involved knew what the system does and decreased the chances of people getting lost in the system.

For any process, Mark notes that you have to spell it out very simply. Before implementing a process, Calvary Worship Center had holes and gaps in discipling their church. But now with everyone on the same page, it’s easy for staff and congregation members to know what to expect. “[You] know their name, and you know how long they’ve been attending, and what they’ve been involved in. CCB helps with all of that. But in this process, it allows them not to get lost… It helped us become effective in this whole discipleship process.”

Mark’s advice is to have an administrator who can help implement and manage the process. He also recommends following through with maintaining the database because it won’t happen on its own.

Measuring Success of Digital Discipleship

After implementing their DNA process, Calvary Worship Center has seen great success among their staff and congregation. Staff don’t have to do things on their own or figure out how to get volunteers by themselves. Guests and church members have a clear process for getting connected and feel valued throughout the process. Mark has heard guests say that they know someone cares about them and their experience. Even senior leadership at the church weighed in, saying, “This is exactly what we need to do. As stewards, we’re responsible for these souls.” Their church now sees greater numbers of guests, members, and volunteers because there’s more consistency and follow-through. Taking the time to develop and implement these processes is a small investment as churches work to expand the Kingdom.
